Brenda Sturdevant works for San Juan Counseling and her family also works together at the Monticello Cemetery. She is a native of Oregon and also grew up in Idaho Falls. She has eight children and two grandchildren. She attended Ricks College (BYU Idaho), Idaho State University, Eastern Oregon University, University of Phoenix and American Public University in West Virginia. She has a Bachelor’s of Science in Liberal studies which included Sociology, Anthropology and History. She also has a Master’s Degree of Arts in History and recently helped with the “Together We Stand” Memorial Project for the Veterans of San Juan County. She has donated time with the Utah Historical Society in putting together the histories for the veterans of San Juan County.

Brenda’s work has involved teaching with a focus on special needs including working with at-risk youth. She was the director for two non-profits which specialized in community resources, volunteerism, collaboration, community events, and programs to strengthen the family and community. She was also a grant writer and managed large grants and budgets. She was a single parent through most of the years her children grew up and understands the dynamics of family stress and trauma.

Brenda believes in equality for all men, women, children and special populations regardless of race religion or gender. She has been an active voice for those who cannot speak for themselves and is committed to representing those who want to be heard. She has been active in promoting programs to strengthen the family, churches, community and volunteerism. She believes that the more a community works together then the more they are vested in the community.

Brenda’s goals if elected are to represent the unrepresented, to help the community collaborate and come together, to help workers have a higher standard and accountability.
