Uranium once again being milled in San Juan County

by Buckley Jensen Well, it has been a long, expensive, painful wait – about half a lifetime for many of us in southeast Utah. But on April 30, 2008, the Dennison Mill on White Mesa (six miles south of Blanding) officially began milling uranium ore. It is the first time that has happened in the United States in decades. The fact that it is actually happening may mark a huge shift in popular opinion towards nuclear power. World conditions have changed dramatically in the last few years.

Home valuation increase in San Juan County is best in state

An article in the Salt Lake Tribune on Saturday, May 3 states that the value of new homes in San Juan County jumped by 51.82 percent in the past year. This is more than twice the increase of any other county in the State.

New Monument Valley Visitor Center to open

The New Monument Valley Visitor Center will be officially opened May 5, 2008, as the keys to the $2.8 million facility are handed from Utah to the Navajo Nation during a sunrise ceremony. The Navajo Parks and Recreation Department will operate the facility located at the Monument Valley Tribal Park entrance on U.S. 191 at the Utah-Arizona border.
