Mugs! New Exhibit at Edge of the Cedars

Come visit our new exhibit, Mugs!, which features…mugs! Perhaps the most iconic pottery form of the Ancestral Pueblo community in the Four Corners, mugs are also a snapshot in time. Mug-making was a tradition that only spanned a relatively short period of time, about 200 years, from the late AD 1000s to about AD 1300. This remarkable stretch of history included the apex of the Chaco Phenomenon and the construction of dozens of huge villages between Cedar Mesa and Mesa Verde. Our assistant curator, Jenson Bayles, helped assemble and organize this small but interesting exhibit with about 50 mugs. Pulled from the shelves of our Visible Storage Room, these items are even more visible now to the visiting public. Mugs! will exhibit through 2024.
